Later night waking/not wanting to eat at breakfast
« on: February 12, 2012, 09:33:21 am »
Hi,

I have a 4 month old, we have been having some issues with night and early wakings which I have been getting some advice on the sleep boards, however along with some changes to sort those out I have also stopped breast feeding this week (3 out of 5 feeds were bf with formula top up).

With these changes our son has started to feed much later in the night. His bed time is now around 7.15/7.30pm, we feed at 6.15pm then light feed before bed, no dream feed. He used to wake between 12.30 and 1.30 to be fed, however over the last week it has now been between 3-4am.

I then get him up for the day between 7-7.30am depending on how long it's taken me to resettle him from his early waking.  When I now give him his first bottle of the day he is not really interested, most I can get him to take is about 100ml and that takes about 45mins!

Should we try and cut out this night feed? I don't want to not feed him when he gets up for the day or it would put our easy out for the day.

We are on a 4 hour easy at the moment and for all other feeds he takes between 7-8oz with no problems, and on the night feed he is having around 150ml max, never any more.

Shall we just stick with it or try to change/stop the night feed?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you!

there are a couple of options, you could try and small dream feed at about 10pm or make the night feed really small, like maybe 3 oz.  it sounds like baby really is on the way to dropping that night feed! yeah!

I do hope so! I will try changing the night feed to a smaller amount and see if he still settles and takes a better feed when he gets up, I want to avoid any dream feed at the moment as we go to bed so early to get through the night/early wakings!

I will give it a go and see how he gets on.  Thank you!
