Clicking noise while feeding and swallowing too much air
« on: February 09, 2012, 00:36:02 am »
Does anyone know why my little guy has had a clicking sound while feeding since he was born? He is now almost 4mo and I cannot get his air swallowing under control and it seems that the clicking with the feeding is the culprit! Help! He's very uncomfortable and cannot sleep and therefore EASY isn't going so EASY!

Hi!

Have you taken a look at this in the FAQ's? Tongue tie is a possibility, one of the signs is usually a clicking sound when feeding.

Hope EASY gets better for you soon! :)

Hi,

My little ones both had tongue ties and when they fed the clicking noise was there. Apparently in their case it was because the tongue tie wasnt allowing them to latch on properly and air was entering the mouth - resulting in both of them being extremely extremely windy! Are you bottle feeding or breastfeeding? My son's tongue tie was 'snipped' at 3years old for speech reasons and for my daughter, we were much more aware second time round so A's tongue tie was 'snipped' at 6 days old.

My son did the same. He was such a noisy drinker with the clicking.  I had tommy tippee bottles with big teat. I had to change to Dr brown due to the wind and found the clicking stopped. It was because he wasn't putting his mouth around the teat properly and so wasn't latching on. The clicking noise was suction being broken. Dr brown teats are smaller around the base.

Well I had a swallowing specialist come and take a look at him and he did confirm that it was just a bad latch on and not tongue tied. I have been using the dr. browns bottles since day one because they are the best but he does still click and swallow air. right now he is congested which causes him to swallow even more air and his reflux is terrible! He is 4 months now and i think this is the worse it has been! Not sure what to do or how to make him feel better. Sigh.... He did just start cereal so maybe that will help?

Just throwing my two cents in on the reflux, as my daughter is a refluxer...

After reading around I've noticed that at 4 months it is extremely common for it to flare up. I'm dreading it. ((((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))))
