EASY for 8.5 month old - i think it needs a tweak?
« on: March 19, 2012, 03:44:30 am »
We're having a few issues with DD2 at night (ie, she keeps waking up to feed! boo!), and i want to make sure that her EASY is not causing the problems. Can I have some eyes to look at this?

a 'typical' "at home" day (please note I have a toddler that we usually go out with in the morning!)

E 7am (BF)
A inclu. solids
S 9.45am (if she has had a good night's sleep).
A 10.45am
E 11am (formula; 60ml max, she won't take more)
A inc. solids
E 1.45pm BF
S 2pm *often have to resettle once or twice during this nap, usually 1hr 15mins after falling asleep.
A 3.45/4pm. inc solids at 5.30pm
E 6.45om BF
S 7pm ish BT.
E anywhere between 12-1am
E usually 4hrs after the last feed. This makes her first feed at 7am very small. :-/

if we go out in the morning to playgroup etc with DD1, she only sleeps for 30/35mins approx, and this means she can only stay awake for approx 2.5hrs, but she will nap for 2.5 hrs to make up the extra 30mins she missed out on her morning nap.

any thoughts?
TIA.

Hey fireredjewel- is she mobile yet? do you think she's ready for the 3 feeds? I'm wondering if it's a simple calories in the night rather than the day issue (see how is say - 'simple'- it's always so 'simple' when you;re reading it!) - by that i mean that she's still needing the 4 feeds, so is making it up in the night?

Hi katy, yup, she is very mobile. commando crawling & almost 'proper' crawling, and has been for almost 2 months (older sister to chase).
I wonder that too; she just eats SO MUCH during the day. her BFs are big (at least 2 of them, anyway). :-/

I've been trying to drop the 4th feed (the 3pm one) and have found him to be grumpy when he doesn't have it... i just wonder- does your Lo get gumpy?

Teething? We're getting some odd night wakings at the moment too...

Actually- having a look at the EASY- could she handle an A time push? Especially the second one? The night wakings plus the fct you are needing to resettle that second nap suggest you COULD try an A time push there? If nothing else it might make that second nap more restful for both of you!

Also- have you tried resettling her without a feed at night?

yep we always try resettling without a feed at night. Often we DH will resettle, then 30 mins later she will wake up again and refuse to settle, but will fall straight back to sleep after eating.

I could try an A time push, it's just difficult on days when we are out and about in the mornings.

teething - she has 8 teeth already, maybe getting more (unbelievable). Have tried medicating when she's really cranky during the day and that seems to help sometimes - but it's not consistent. meh!

I know you have a thread going on Breastfeeding- so you might get some more thoughts there- but it looks like she is needing those feeds. It can be normal till 9 months for at least one feed at night. Sorry- i notice now that the second feed of the day is formula- meaning she's still on the 4 feeds essentially.

As far as the EASY- it does look pretty good. I think your main issue is sorting out her feeding rather than stressing over the A times i think...

cool thanks katy.
so annoying, DD1 STTN when she was 10 weeks old, and has only ever woken up 4 times at night since. *sigh* talk about a rude shock!

ha- yeah- my guy this week has done the same!! It's as if i've had my head cut off!! I look at the clock like 'WHAT?!?! WHAT IS THIS UNGODLY HOUR!!' I think that this age is a blippy one, they have the seperation anxiety kick in here too- and teething... so it could be a combination...
