8 month old starting nap training, need advice.
« on: April 22, 2012, 19:50:42 pm »
MyLO is almost 8 months old. About a month ago I started letting her settle at night on her own, she takes anywhere from 30 to 1 hour to settle (I thought the time would decrease as she got used To it?). Ne how I want to start nap training but am worried about WTs and how long it takes her to settle, I don't want her to get OT. She has been a short napper since the 4 month sleep regression, and takes 3 30 min assisted naps right now. She wakes up happy most of the time and is generally a happy baby, she had colic, and still suffers with bad gas. She gives sleep ques anywhere from 1.5-2.5 hours after her short naps but in order to keep routine I settle her at 2.5 hours. The few times I've tried to let her settle on her own it's like this. Sleep ques.. Bring her to bed after short WD fusses and fights for 1 hour, sleep for at most 30 mins sometimes less!! I think it's because after all that struggle and a longer than usual WT she is now OT and sleeps poor? So am I supposed to anticipate that she will take 30 plus mins to settle and bring her to bed before sleep ques even happen, and with this won't she just be UT? Ahh I need help

Hi there and welcome to BW :)

Could you tell us what method you used to introduce self settling for night sleep?
What does she do during that 30 min to an hr of settling at night?
Is this the same as she does at nap time?

Could you also tell us if you have read any of the BW books and if/when you introduced the EASY routine?
Thanks this information will help the BW community to respond more specifically to your situation.
