When do you stop blessed thistle and fenugreek?
« on: May 18, 2012, 05:24:48 am »
Hi guys.
Needed to ask - DD2 is coming into her six month and I think she's starting her growth spurt a bit early. She seems extra hungry so I'm feeding her as often as she'll take it and doing the left/right/left/right and an extra right/ left if she'll take it at feed time.
However due to issues with DD1 four years ago and decreasing supply at six months - I wanted to help suplement the milk by taking blessed thistle and fenugreek. The bottle says to take two tablets three times a day - how long for? If I just want to use it for growth spurts is that okay? How long for....?

Thanks!

Hiya, so do you feel your supply is low yet? You may find it adjusts well to the growth spurt anyway.
There's no danger in taking fenugreek for a while if you want to, although I'd only bother with it long term if you're needing to pump for extra feeds. I'd take it for a few days and see how you're doing, by which point you may be out of the growth spurt anyway :)

hey you with the pretty face, welcome to the human race

Thanks for the advice. She's been feeding from both sides at least twice per feed for the last week. Thought growth spurts should have settled by three or four days. Anyhow - I'll do the herbs for another day or so and see if she seems happier and less hungry.

How slowly?  I was taking them after a stomach flu and I almost lost all my milk completely!  It did come back (whether it was due to the herbs or extra water intake, I dunno), but I went down to once a day, then nothing within a matter of days.  I am hoping I'm going to be ok, its the second day without them and I seem to be a bit lower today.  maybe its the poor weaning?  What kind of wean schedule did she give you?

It was over 2 weeks.  I feel like I was taking 3 3times a day initially, and we just took one pill out for a few days, than another for a few days until it was finally eliminated
