5 wko fussiness/gas questions
« on: May 26, 2012, 01:46:48 am »
My 5 wk old has started what I assume is the 'fussy period' this week. It was like a switch turned on and she has been crying and difficult to calm down in the evenings and in the mornings. Overall, she is just more fussy, and she was an angel baby until now- she rarely cried. She has gas way more than normal- I think she must be passing gas 20 times a day! They are loud- she doesn't cry, but I wonder if the screaming/crying is because of a tummy ache? My question is, is the fussiness that peaks around 6 weeks related to gas or is it just general fussiness? I don't know what to do- I stopped all dairy today- I was allergic to milk as a child so maybe that is bothering her. Also, she hasn't pooped yesterday or today.... any thoughts???

Hi there, urgh, the fussy periods are such hard work!  This article has some great information about whether it's "normal" fussiness or something else http://kellymom.com/parenting/parenting-faq/m2m-fussiness/

Gas/wind could contribute to that fussiness.  My DD had horrid bottom wind that she struggled to shift until she had some cranial osteopathy (no idea how it works, but it does seem to!)

Are there any other BF niggles that could be associated with this?  Any pain for you, difficulties with latch?  Any problems during labour/delivery that could be contributing?

Well, it seems to me that I have alot of milk and I thought it might come fast, but she seems better at it and isn't choking and coming off like she used to. She squeaks ALOT and has been doing it during BF and I read that some babies do this and they are taking in air. She also is a power sucker and just gulps it back...like suck, gulp, suck, gulp... for quite a while so I don't know if that contributes. Things have gotten much better since last week- she still has fussy periods but nothing like what we saw last week. The gas seems better now too. She still passes gas but it doesn't seem to be as much or as often. Things have calmed but I am still not having dairy just to see.
