Go from 3 to 4 hrs
« on: June 25, 2012, 07:43:25 am »
Hello hello

I have a ten week old boy and I am wanting to extend him to 4 hours.

He was a very hungry baby and was very unsettled so out him on aptamil 2 for hungry babies. This worked really well as in he settled between feeds but he is still only drinking 4/5 Ozs.

His routine is the following:

8
11
2
5
7
8 bed
11 dream feed

And wakes up between 4/6 for a feed - never a set time.

Any idea show I can get this feed between 4 and 6 to stop?

My partner thinks we should give the dream feed at 12 to extend him longer. What do you think?

What's the easiest way to go from a 3 to 4 hr routine.

At 10 weeks old a 3 hour EASY is totally appropriate, babies move to a 4 hour EASY around 16 weeks/ 4 months. There is a big growth spurt around 12 weeks which is one reason for sticking to the 3 hour EASY, another is that he won't be able to do the A times needed until he is around 4 months.

Is there a reason you wanted to move to 4 hours early?

The DF needs to be done between 10pm and 11pm as doing it later has been found to disturb sleep as much as help it so I wouldn't suggest moving it later really. He is doing really well to be going from a DF to 4am at this age and that feed will be dropped when he is ready to do it.

Ok thanks so much. Just a few people have mentioned he should be on a 4hr routine now.

Guess everyone has there own opinions.

He is a very good baby so quiet.

He actually slept through to 7,30am hinself this morning without a 4-6am feed.

Yeah! That's great! I hope he continues to sleep through for you - wish my two had done that so early!! You may find he wakes again during growth spurts like the 12 week one you have coming soon, so if you can't resettle him quickly when he wakes assume it's hunger and feed him!
