Night feeds at 4 1/2 months
« on: August 16, 2012, 15:22:02 pm »
I've been doing a DF 4 hours after LO eats last before bed, but I'm not sure when, if at all & should feed him again during the night. Last night he was up at 445 & I thought he was hungry, so I fed him. He started getting sleepy partway through & I don't think he took a full feed. When I fed him at 715 this morning, he didn't quite take a full feed either. He's 4 1/2 months old & weighs 17 lbs, EBF.

It's hard for me to tell at night if he's actually hungry or not because it's dark & I'm half awake haha. Is it common for BF babies of his age/size to make it all night? Thanks!

Totally normal for BF baby of this age to have DF and a NF - don't think size has an awful lot to do with it TBH ;)  More that breastmilk is digested very quickly and a lot of LOs need that extra feed.  Keep feeding if you think he's hungry and don't worry if he doesn't seem that interested in the morning - we went through several phases of that and I either just kept offering throughout the first A time or waited until DD had been up half an hour or so before offering.  She's recently dropped her NF of her own accord so it will come right!

We also have a DF and a NF and the same issue as you, if the NF was anywhere past 5am she isn't hungry upon wake up. I go one of 2 ways: either feed less at the NF or wait till she's hungry in the morning and have an AEASY
