NW versus EW
« on: July 16, 2012, 23:31:57 pm »
hi,
ok, so my question is, what is the rule of thumb for what causes a NW vs EW.  From what i gather, EW are usually caused by OT or Teething and what about a NW?  is that usually due to poor routine (nap too early or late)?  im just trying to dicipher the two.
thanks!!!

Well, EW can also be caused by UT at first nap...so LO tacks on their night to their nap. LO wakes early to compensate. Mine did this little rascal.
NW before midnight are more likely to be OT, especially if not long after BT. After midnight more likely to be UT. BUT discomfort can cause NW, developmental leaps can cause NW and it's more the behavior you get at the NW/EW that indicates which it is KWIM?
Routine is a good indicator in that if your routine is age appropriate, LO is eating sleeping well etc then it's easier to tweak a little and notice an improvement. If routine is out then adjusting it can also make a huge difference...especially if your LO gets into an UT/OT loop ;)
