New Mom! How to start EASY?!
« on: July 22, 2012, 20:40:17 pm »
Hi everyone!
I have an 8 week old baby girl that I am trying to put on the 3hr EASY schedule. I have a few questions though on how to get started.
The schedule starts at 7am does that mean I should wake her at that time if she is still sleeping? As a matter of fact, should I wake her up every three hours after that to feed or should I let her sleep even if it passes 10am, 1pm etc.? ???
She eats at 7ish falls asleep by 815 then I wake her at 10 to eat then she falls back asleep where I wake her up at 1 to feed if she has not woken up on her own before that. The thing is after her 1 o'clock feed it is nearly impossible to get her to nap and she is very cranky. She gets overtired and if she does fall asleep it won't be for longer than 30min. I'm really good about catching her early signs of been tired and try to get her readyto nap then but even though she looks exhausted she just seems to fight her sleep! At night, the routine is bath time around 630 then lotion and pjs. Feed around 7 and she will fall asleep 30 minutes then wake up again! It'll take us about 1hr of rocking and walking up and down the hall for her to finally fall asleep again (usually by 9) and she will sleep until her 1am feed then her 4am feed.

Your questions are a bit tricky ;)
If it was me, I would wake at some point in the morning, but not necessary at 7, it could be 7:30 if it works better for you and even 8. It also depends on when is her BT, you are aiming to a 12h day, so you can aim for a WU when you have a set BT.
I never woke up from naps. I didn't see the sense, when I finally get a bit longer nap than 45min to wake him up. I know that Tracey said to wake them up, it just didn't feel right to me. When he woke up I just adjusted the rest of the day.
It could be that because you wake her up now before she had the chance to have a restorative nap of at least 1.5h she becomes OT be the afternoon and then it's hard to put her for a nap.
the night is pretty ok, your NW are fine except for the beginning of the night, but that as well I think is because of OT. Once you get the afternoon ok I think she will just wake up later in the evening.
When is her last feed before BT?

Good luck!

Thanks! That helps ALOT! Her BT is 7pm but this is where she does her catnap then wakes up and will usually fall back asleep by 9. I usually wake her up after her two morning naps (1st:815am-10am 2nd:1115am-100pm) but I never had to in the afternoon since she doesn't nap :( I try everything to get her to nap after her 1 o'clock feed but she just won't go down and this is where the overtiredness starts! Also for activity I don't do much as she gets overstimulated very easily! Would just the diaper change, feed and her WD count as activity?

Everything you do when her eyes open counts as A ;)
Is her A before the CN same as the earlier ones? If it is, then you could try and have 10 more minutes of A and only then put her down. What are you doing to help her fall asleep for her CN and for how long?
Will she have a CN in the pram or in the car?

So I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but she's napped every afternoon this week! Hopefully we can keep that routine going! But at bedtime she still takes that cat nap before going to dreamland for the night! No matter what we do! We know that once she falls asleep which only take 10-15 minutes she'll be back up 30 min later and we've been doing the shush pat andshe falls back asleep within 45 minutes more or less. Her new thing too is that she grunts and strains ALOT at night which keeps all of us up! As if she is trying to get out of her swaddle but once she does she's still grunting an her arms and legs go everywhere! And if te swaddle is tight enough so that she can't get out of it she still keeps trying almost all night! In result, we all wake up tired especially her then she fusses when going down at her am nap and sometimes will take a 30min nap because of that and it throws off her naps for the day :(

Good news on the afternoon nap.
I remember we also had such nights with Alon when he was smaller, that he would always wake up a certain time after going to bed and I would sit there forever shhing him. It did pass though.

It sounds like gas at night to me, what do you think? Are you burping after NF? there was a time I didn't because I was too afraid of waking him up :P and then he was grunting a lot.
