All over the map!
« on: September 13, 2012, 03:51:02 am »
Hi there, looking for some help with EASY for my 9 week old.  We've had a schedule/pattern since 5 weeks.  It seemed relatively breezy until this week where it has all fallen apart  :'(

My LO for the last few weeks has only had an A time of about an hour, then she'd fall asleep pretty easily for 1-2 hours.  The last few days she shows the sleepy signs but often fights going to sleep and then only sleeps for 45 minutes.  This has thrown me for a huge loop.  When do I feed her when our naps are so wonky?  How do I get longer naps without making her OT?

Here's today's bonkers EASY:

Wake 7:00 am (we nursed and dozed so started day wonky)
A 7-8
S 8-9:00 am
E 9:00-9:15
A: 9:15-10:00
S: 10:00-10:45
E: 10:45-10:50
A:10:50-11:45
E: 11:45
S:12:00-2:00 (she woke 1 hour in and I soothed her back to sleep)
E:2:00
A:2:15-3:20
S: 3:20-4:20
A:4:20-4:45
E:4:45
A:4:45-6:45 (!!!)
Catnap 6:45-7:15
Asleep for night at: 8:30 pm

For fear of over-burdening this post, some of my concerns are:

- frequency of feeding.  I really think she likes to eat every 3 hours, but we get so muddled throughout the day that I'm probably offering too often.

- how the bleep do you achieve EASY with a 2.5 yr old who needs you as much as the infant!!!

Please help!  THANKS!

I'd bet she needs a small A increase ;) By two months, the average A time is about 1hr15 Is my baby ready to increase his ‘A’ time? (incl. 'A' times for younger babies) so I would try gently increasing the first A of the day by 15 mins. Do something nice and low-key to stretch her out, like just walking around the house. If the slightly longer A times give you good naps, you'll be back on your 3hr EASY!

Remember if you do get a short nap, you may need to shorten the next A slightly to avoid OT, so just keep an eye out for that.

Have you seen these stickies on doing EASY with a second child? Introducing EASY to a 2nd child and Ideas for how to sleep train and deal with naps with #2
Does your older LO still nap? I would try to get your younger LO to nap at the same time if possible so that can be one that you generally have more time to settle/resettle, and not worry so much if the others are sometimes shorter, or on the go.

Thanks for support and suggestions.  We had a decent night last night and will try and extend the A times today.

One change  I made this morning was not to nurse after we got up for the day.  LO usually joins me in bed around 5 am and nurses on and off til 7:00-7:30.  Don't really know how much she's nursing so I usually try to feed her more before that first nap.  I think that throws our entire day off.  Make sense?

I'll post the day's schedule  later.  Thank you!!  :D
