9.5 months, EASY gone out the door.... confused!!
« on: July 25, 2012, 20:02:37 pm »
Hi there

I really would love some help and advise to get things going better for my 9.5month boy!  We have had several months of multiple NW's, then last week I decided to re-swaddle and safe-t sleep him and it made a HUGE difference - were only getting one wake at 4am, one night he slept thru til 6am!!!  At the same time, he started being able to have better/longer day sleeps as well!  I'm sure the 2 were related.

However - this week, the wheels have fallen off again a bit and I am super confused!!!

2 nights ago he went to bed UT (due to a long/late nap - yes, I should have woken him!) and wouldn't settle properly til 10.30pm!  He woke the next day at 8am (yesterday) and I tried the usual 3hr A time we have been doing (give or take), but he only napped for 30mins, so I thought I would reduce his A time before his next nap, but this seemed to fail also!!  No idea if he was UT/OT by this point, but he almost fell asleep in the car (after 2hrs A time) so I dashed him into his bed when we got home - but no sirree!!  By the time he NEEDED a sleep/was prepared for a sleep, it was 4pm again!!  (He had a 10min CN) Then I made another mistake of keeping him up too LATE last night, til 7pm.  He was awfully OT by this point with virtually no sleep all day.  :-(  He woke several times, after 20mins, 60mins, and I had to resettle him.  Then he wole at 2.30am, feed and back down til 6.30am this morning.

HELP!  What do I do next????!

Hugs, first I would ditch the swaddle, he's really too old for it and it could be a coincidence it worked... :-\

What is/was your routine before two nights ago? It could be he is hitting the 2-1 ;)

How do you resettle at NW?

OK, thanks. Our routine has never changed.... dinner/bath/bed (tuyrn lights down and play soft music)

I think we have been in a horrible overtired cycle lately..... first nap was short and rest of day was a nightmare.  He didn't settle til 9pm lasy night, then we had a wake at 3.30pm and 5.30pm before he woke "happy" at 8am this morning.

I have only successfully re-settled him (most of the time) with a feed.  SOMETIMES I can resettle by humming to him.... but it doesn't ofgten work.  :-(  I haven't had much success with the shh-pat.  :-(  But open to help/ideas of all kinds!!!!

Of of course.... sorry....!  It's all over the place...... but here's the previous "good" days routine.

Wake 7.30am
E
A after 3hrs
S 1hr 2 mins
Y
E
A Seems to handle less A time in the afternoon
S 45mins/1hr
Y
Dinner around 4.30/5pm
(low key before bath)
Bedtime around 6pm-7pm depending on what sort of mess the day has been.  :-(

It seems I can't get that first nap going right.  I don't know if he is UT/OT but certainly it's not refreshing as the days A times decrease from there immensly to the point that I have a very OT boy who I almost always have to feed to sleep at night or resettle.

I am SO afraid of an OT baby, but have one about 90% of the time.  I am listening to my husband in the bedroom with my baby at the moment, trying to calm him to sleep.  It is breaking my heart.

I know (believe) that if I get the day-sleeps happening better, the night sleeps will improve again also.

Please help!!!  :-(
