Check my EASY Out! 6 months
« on: July 26, 2012, 15:26:27 pm »
The last three days, our goal has been transitioning from four 45 min naps/90 min wake time/Nurse every 2 hours to two 1.5- 2 hour naps.  I am not sure if I am seeing improvement and could use suggestions.  My DS is 6 months, not on solids yet, and wakes 5-6 times per night still.  I partially swaddle him (one arm out), use shhh-pat to get him to sleep in his crib, but he still uses a pacifier.  Sometimes he can put the pacifier back in himself and sometimes he can't.

Regardless of his wakings, he is somehow the happiest baby in the world.

Sorry this isn't very organized - just copied and pasted from my word journal.

I think there are a few issues going on:
*He is UT and is ready for more A. Have a look here: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=84884.0 and http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=164029.0
*He might be ready to drop the CN, this usually happens around 6 months. You won't be able to do it yet because your A is too low, but once you increase it and have good full naps you won't fit it in the day anyway. http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=64837.0
*The other cause for the NW can be hunger. Have you tried feeding him more frequently during the day? Many BF babies don't get to 4h gaps till later on and some don't get there at all. I also remember that Tracey said somewhere that if suddenly there are many NW then it is connected to hunger. Is there are reason you didn't start solids yet?

HTH.

Thanks!  Good things to look into.   I would say hunger is a factor in 1-2 night wakings, but the others are comfort.  He only actually eats 1 time at night.  We haven't started solids yet because  our pediatrician doesn't start until 6 months and I am hoping to wait until 7 months so my husband can feed him his first foods - he has been deployed to Afghanistan since my DS was 7 days old and hasn't gotten to have any of the "Firsts" with him. We are only 4 weeks out from him getting home.

We are getting 2 hours 15 min/2hrs 30 min wake time many times, but I am still working on making it consistent.  Lately, it seems like his first A time has been very hard to get the complete amount - we managed it today, though, with him going down after 2 hr 30 min of A time - I had to bring him to a sitter, though, because I had to go to the dentist and the sitter got him up when he woke after a 30 minute nap, instead of trying to put him back down like I instructed.  She said he was happy and giggly, though  He stayed up for another 2 hr 30 min wake time and so far has been napping for 1 hr and 15 minutes, so it seems like he hasn't gotten OT from it.

I am going to try to keep upping the A-times and see what happens - he is officially turns 6 months in a few days, so I will see if he makes it to the 3 hours of awake time and then try dropping the cat nap.

I also just made a change to our naptime routine - I wasn't including enough wind down and I was doing it with too much jiggling, etc.

Thanks for the look!

How are things going? Are you sticking to a new A time, and how has it been?

Yesterday was really great - two solid naps, 1.5 and 2 hours.  To bed at 7.  Today has been terrible.  He kept showing signs of sleepiness at ~ 1h 45 min and I tried to keep his A time extended - so far we had one 1.5 nap and two 30 minute naps.  Everything is irregular. 3 hours is definitely still overreaching A time for him, for sure.

I put him in his crib to sleep all night for the first time last night (we were cosleeping) - he woke up 9 times, so I think he might have already been OT this morning.  I'm pretty frustrated, but I keep telling myself that tonight is another night and tomorrow is another day.

It does sound like he was OT, maybe after a night like that you should keep the A a bit shorter. Perhaps it too many changes at once for him... I don't know' just throwing it out there.

Hang in there, you had a good day, so it means it can happen again :)
