First Feed of The Day
« on: September 18, 2012, 17:29:14 pm »
Hi,
My DD is 5mo and has recently transitioned to a four hour easy.  I am doing a dream feed and one feed in the middle of the night.  She wakes up at different times so I am assuming it is hunger.  I have not tried weaning her from this feeding yet.  I am finding that some of her night feedings are happening quite late and as a result I don't think she is always that hungry when she wakes up.  Do I just feed her at 7 anyway or wait and feed her when it has been four hours since her night feed?  When I do wait (eg. 4am then 8am feed) if completely throws our EASY plan out the window for the day.

Do I try and drop the night feed?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Many BF LOs will carry on having a NF for a good while.  Personally, I'd give the feed at 4am and then offer again at 7am and see what happens and then follow LO's cues from there.

We had this on and off for ages - I just kept offering a feed at wake-up and again half an hour later if she wasn't particularly interested to start with.  It sorted itself out in the end :D

Agree with PPs.  Also, if you're finding that feed gets stuck in the early AM hours (which is perfectly normal BTW) you might try to give a shortened feed so as to preserve the WU feed.

Thank you for the helpful suggestions!  I will feed her when she wakes up and go from there!
