9 months , refusing any daytime naps!
« on: October 01, 2012, 12:05:13 pm »
I don't know what went wrong. I used to be able to put her down in the cot would turn on her side and fall straight asleep. Ever since she started crawling and pulling herself up she has point blank refused to take any daytime naps. In theory she should be more tired from all the physical activity?. Night time i sing the same 3 lullaby's pop her down and off she sleeps almost straight away waking once maybe then up at 5.30 ish. I have tried P.U.P.D  for a week during the day but she is still hysterical 45 minutes of doing it later. All the signs are there and as soon as i see her rubbing her eyes i take her straight up but nothing works. Help! :'(

Can you post your EASY, hun? Tired signs can be a bit unreliable as LO gets older so it may be that she's telling you she needs an A increase :) How long has she been crawling/pulling herself up now?

She has been crawling  and pulling herself up for 8 weeks now. Her Easy is as follows

7AM- breakfast solids
A
S 9.30-10.00 Try to get her to nap
E- bottle 11.30
A
E-lunch solids 1.00
S 2.00- Try to get her to nap
A
4.30 Bath
E Dinner solids 5.00
A
6.00 -bottle
6.30 bed
E- 10.30 bottle
5-30 6 wake up

I put her down as soon as she started rubbing her eyes today at 9.30am. I Kept going back in every 5 minutes for 45 minutes to settle her. She cried constantly. I then gave her a bottle and she fell asleep on it and has been asleep 2 hours as i type. Im not sure all the crying is the way to go?. I fell bad letting her get so worked up for so long before she finally goes to sleep on a bottle!.

Can I just check that you mean she was mantra crying? If she's crying an "I need you" cry, please don't leave her even for 5 mins hun - that's controlled crying and not something we advocate here. If she's mantra crying and trying to settle, it's fine to leave her but I would only let her try to settle for about 15 mins before either trying to AP the rest of the nap, or getting her up and carrying on with the day.

What’s a mantra cry?

So she used to nap at 9.30 and 2, is that right? I wonder if perhaps she starting fighting the am nap because she was UT. Is the waking at 5.30/6 a new thing? When do you actually get her up in the morning? The average A time at this age would be around 3.5hrs, although some need more. She's getting towards the age where it's common to have one longer nap and one slightly shorter one (maybe an hour), as you move towards the 2-1 nap transition.

If she's built up some OT, I wonder if you could AP naps for a day or two to get her caught up, then start over and try pushing the first nap gradually towards 10am.

Is she teething?

xx

It seems to start of as a mantra cry and then it's a very angry one!.  Yes, she is teething. When she wakes early i try to settle her back with a dummy but i just get more of the same angry cry that wakes the whole house. I have to admit i sit in my bed with her till 6am if she wakes about 5.30 am. I don't play with her though or engage too much. Then my 5 year old gets up then we all go downstairs to start the day. It all went pear shaped when she had a bit of a cold and couldn't settle. Try as i might to get back on  track im failing. Her A time is about 4 hrs if she is up from 5.30am. Isn't that a bit long?. Just a foot note, she is on a special formula as she  has a cmp allergy. The formula is metabolized quickly so therefore she has more of it than a baby of this age would. I can't up her solids too much as she has reflux and filling her up too much has the opposite effect and leaves her in too much pain. I have to give her a certain amount of formula as directed by the doctor a day. Unfortunately she will only take a certain amount at a time.  The 4 hr feeding rule doesn't work too well because of this.

Hugs hun. Could it be a discomfort issue - teething causing a reflux flare, perhaps? Do you give teething meds?

With the A times, I just wondered if she used to wake later and so the 9.30 nap had been too early for her - which could have led to her starting to wake earlier to fit in enough awake time before she knows she's going to get a nap! Her night is still a good length though.
