Thanks Amanda --- this is really helpful and I hope I am writing back in a week to say the little man is crawling, has at least 2 teeth, etc. I am also STARVING (I am BF) and have been for awhile so I think some major growth is going on.

ZacsMumme, not sure where I confused you maybe at bedtime that night. DS went down at 7:10 after about 20 mins. I usually do about 3 hours A time before AM nap and have been doing 3 - 3:15 hours lately for the PM nap but I am wondering if DS is UT for that based on the last 2 days.

9/28
Woke at 6:10 A (woke prior at 4:10 to eat) - tried to get him back down here
S: 8:45-9:20 A (APOP - in car after driving for about 35 mins)
S: 12:58-1:25 P (APOP - fell asleep in baby carrier after 20 mins then transferred to crib)
S: 5 - 5:30 P (in car)
Bed at 7:30 PM (took 20 mins for DH to get him down in crib)

Today - 9/29
Woke at 5 AM - tried to get him back down here
S: 8:08 - 9:20 A (APOP - fell asleep in baby carrier after 6-7 mins then transferred to crib)
S: 12:43 - 1:23 P (APOP - fell asleep in baby carrier after 14 mins then transferred to crib)

Most times he is happy when get gets up. Use teething tablets here and there but not before each nap.

Is it even worth analyzing now or should I just admit we are in a "tough" stage that will probably last until he is crawling and some teeth poke through? Topic of this post should be updated to say 8.5 month old!

When we go through these "phases" and things are all over I like to just sit back and watch for three days at least. I may write things down I might not but for three days I make sure to just sort of watch him and try to go with the flow. I can usually figure out whats happening or what the actual problem is by doing that. IMHO I'd just wait it out a bit instead of driving yourself crazy. If things don't get better in a couple of weeks then re-examine. It took us at least a month to get back on track and now things are absolutely fabulous and totally back to normal and I didn't do a thing just watched and tried to listen to what he was telling me.

I think this A time is too short really and any nap before 9 is starting to encourage EW....
Is he textbook/angel? - If so I would be tempted to suggest set naps to pull those EW out....but if hes touchy this could make things worse :-\

In the past was he an independent sleeper? - Can he settle in the cot on his own? - When he wakes in the cot from a short nap can you ever APOP back to sleep? How is he waking?

He is actually mainly spirited and touchy at times.

He sometimes gets up at 5AM, in that case can I really stretch him to 4 or more hours of A time.

From 5 months to about a week into 7 months, we could wind him down for a minute or 2 and lay him in his crib and then with no or minimal interaction, he would settle on his owns. Most times it was a very short period (1-5 mins) and others it took him like 30 mins to settle but he would end up putting himself to sleep. DH is still able to get him to do this most nights at bedtime though usually takes 20 mins for him to settle. Each time I try, I am not able to get him down. He cries and cries for me.

I still am doing naps in the car or in the Ergo carrier (and then transferring him to his crib).

I think only one time I had luck getting him to go back to sleep after he woke in his crib. He has been waking pretty happy even after short naps and in the morning but over the last few days he has been crabby about half of the time when waking from naps.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I spoke too soon, the last 2 nights we can not get him to fall asleep on his own so I fear at this point he may have lost that skill all together.

He is 37 weeks and I do know there is a wonder week at 37 weeks so maybe this is throwing us even more off? It's hard to keep saying it's just developmental as fighting going down for naps/bed/sleeping poorly been going since the last week in August and we are now into October.

Should I start PU/PD again and start all over? Not sure if DS is too old (or if i I can physically do it as he weighs much more now than he did at 5 mo).

Crossing my fingers we are super close to crawling and he will tire himself out with that!

I'm sure the crawling and developmental leap will be at least part of your problems Hun
So with regards to aps in the ergo etc - he was able to sleep in the cot independently before this? Sorry im not sure if he was an independent sleeper before or not.

Can you post easy?
