Can I increase supply at 9 months?
« on: October 13, 2012, 04:23:09 am »
Hi,
I dont know if my 9.5 month DD is getting enough milk. She eats a tremendous amount of solids and loves every kind of food - the only thing she doesn't eat are the no-nos until a year. She nurses upon waking from night and naps and then nurses to almost asleep at bedtime only. I feed once a night around 1am, but she wakes much more often than that. I am working on her EASY schedule right now, but one suggestion was the quantity of milk she is getting. How do I know she is getting enough? She seems happy and satisfied after nursing, but 20 minutes later is ready for her solid food. After nursing her at night, she sometimes goes back to sleep and is sometimes up for another hour or two!

She nurses 4 times a day, 1 time at night right now.

Should I try nursing her an extra time at night just to rule out hunger? She eats so much dinner (about 1.5 hours before going to bed) that I would be shocked if she was hungry. She nurses well right before bed but doesn't act ravenous. At night, sometimes she falls asleep on the first side and sometimes doesn't fall asleep at all after both sides.

I would love to increase my supply anyway just to ensure I make it to a year with her. Its been a tough 9 months, but we are making it and I CANT give up now!!!!

So, my two questions are:
Can I increase my supply and how? (Would prefer not to pump as I have a 3 yo DS and a baby that I watch during the week, but I'd do it if I had to...)
Should I nurse DD more in the night?

Thanks!!

I hear you, BFing has sucked for us but I'm hell bent on making it to 1y. Even more so than my friends who have had an easy time of it. Maybe because of all the effort we've put into getting so far that not making it to 1yo would be like I failed or sth, ykwim?
Try fenugreek, it does wonders and for me worked within 24h of taking it.

You could give fenugreek a go.  I probably wouldn't be trying to feed in the night unless she's waking for it
