Nursing to sleep...only at night
« on: October 18, 2012, 23:43:37 pm »
What's everyone else doing? I put my baby I sleep wide awake, no props during the day but come night time, when its time to go to bed, I bathe my son then nurse him to sleep. Then I lay him in his crib asleep. He's totally fine with this and wakes at 1030 or 11 then again around 3am for a feed. He's 4 months old.
Everyone's thoughts please! Is this ok or causing more harm than good?

I believe lots of people do nurse to sleep at night - I did until around 3 months, then nursed to drowsy, the progressively more awake as DD got older.  Now I can't nurse to sleep if I try!  If it doesn't seem to be a prop (as in he's not waking frequently for it and knows how to self-settle in the day) then if you both enjoy it, it's fine :D  As long as you are aware it may become a prop and know the signs of that starting to happen, I think it's entirely up to you whether you want to stick with it for now or work on putting him down more awake x

Exactly what Katherine said.  My ds nursed to sleep more nights than not (many, many more nights than not) and it didn't turn into a prop.  As long as you make sure it doesn't turn into one, go ahead and do it.  :)
