6 months - NWs
« on: October 24, 2012, 19:18:06 pm »
Hello  ;D

LO has been doing great, but the big 6 month mark has arrived with a bang!  He's gone from STTN to lots of NWs - we've both been suffering with a cold and may be having a growth spurt and I think this is probably what's knocked things out of whack, but would appreciate any extra words of wisdom...

For the last 5 days our easy has looked like this:

E: 7.30am
A
S: 10.30am
E: 11.40am
A
S: 2.40pm
E:4pm
A
S: 7-7.15pm

Then at night he's been waking up at about 10pm (I feed him, usually DF would be at 10.30 and he doesn't wake up)
Then again at 1.30pm (I've fed again and he's taken a reasonable feed)
Then again at 3pm - wakes not crying, but still needs help getting back to sleep)
Then again sometime before 4pm
Then another one before 7.30am (but last night he missed out this final NW and went through till 7.30 - yay!)

I've been offering a BF at most NWs as have been worried may be a GS or needs a drink as he has a cold.  After BF he's sometimes gone back into his cot asleep, sometimes awake then sends himself off to sleep. If he's woken up very alert I have also done a nappy change, topped up vapour-rub on his chest etc to try and keep him comfortable (no more than once in the night).

Based on this, would you guys be doing anything differently at this point?  He's done 5 nights like this and am worried that a negative pattern is setting in.... aslo noticed that his daytime naps are usually about 1hr 10 mins - 1hr 20 mins - do these look UT to you?  Do you think the NWs may also be UT?

Thanks everyone x

There's this to consider: http://www.thewonderweeks.com/index.php/about-the-wonder-weeks/your-babys-10-leaps/mental-leap-5 I'd say this may be responsible for at least some of those wakings early in the morning.

Also, the naps are a little on the short side - I'd suggest increasing your A times a little and taking note that he's on the slightly high side of average A times for future reference when tweak routines as you may be asked 'has he always been high on the A times?'.

Along with that, you may need to revise bedtime or ideal wake time - a 12.5hr night is a bit too much to expect. 11.5 may be closer to the mark for your LO.

Thanks for that - will give A times a little shove tomorrow, and will wake him at 7am (which was his usual wake up time before it all went wonky - after all the NWs & with the cold I have been leaving him sleeping as long as he would go)

Wonder week 5!  good call! that may explain a lot!

Doing better, down to 2 x NW now :)

Have pushed A time to 3hrs 15 mins, no lengthening of naps yet, will hold at this level for another day then take it to 3hrs 30 mins (!!)
