So lost with no sleep ..over a month now
« on: November 12, 2012, 15:32:33 pm »
It's been over a month non since ALyssa has had a decent night of sleep, it been 2 months since we have had even 2 night of good sleep. I put her back to 2 naps a day (am nap-1.5 hrs) and pm nap (30 minutes). We have a good BT routine and she goes right to bed. Then between 11-1am she wakes starts screaming, yelling ( not really crying) and WILL NOT STOP UNTIL YOU GET HERE OUT OF HER CRIB. I have tried WI/WO and last night even layed on her floor for 3 hrs well she flipped out until I just couldn't take it anymore and brought her into my bed (where she will not sleep) were her sister was already waiting for us and then played until 7am when I just lost it and brought them upstairs. This happens every.  single. night. I am so beyond tired and when I do not have sleep a I just a angry mess of emotions, my PPD is peaking again, my almost 3 yrs old that is 100% pted is having a million accidents a day from beiing tired. DH is tired, Peed off and it's affecting his work since he does phyical work. He does not have the engery. Heck even the cat is mean from no sleep ::) What the hell should I do?

Teeth are always in the mix, she teeth's all the time
She was an independent sleeper, goes down great for naps and 90% of the time for bed.
There is no normal wake up time
Start day-7:30am (10oz bottle)
9:30-breakfast
10:30-snack
11:30-bed
1pm-up (sometimes 2pm but not in a while) (10oz bottle)
2pm-lunch
4:30-snack
5pm-nap
5:30-I wake her up and right away supper
6:30-clean up and bath
7pm- meds for teething, bottle, stories then bed
7:40-7:45pm asleep
11pm-1am- wake up screaming will not settle
bring into my bed or Dh will bring upstairs
back downstairs when she is calm
2-3am will wake her sister up then Em gets into bed with us (I am beyond to tired to care at this point)
3-6am up and down, one will wake the other up and vise versa
up and down until i get out of bed at 7:30am

Hi there

If she is willing to still take 2 naps, then I think you should go with that but shift everything up. A nap at 5 pm is just going to throw her whole sleep routine out the window as it isn't that restorative at all.
She sounds really OT with the short naps and broken nights.
How old is she?

I would go back to naps at times closer to her biological sleep windows (8:30/9 and 1pm) and then an early bedtime if she skips a nap or one or both isn't over an hour. Give it a consistent week of this routine before you make any other changes so you can see any patterns develop and to give time to allow her body clock to re adjust. She's overtired and needs time to catch up on that lost sleep before you will see improvements. Good luck! :)

Smurfette,
I am going to be completely honest here. I am so tired that I have been sitting here trying to understand what you wrote but it is going so far over my sleep deprived brain that it looks like grade 12 math to me :-[ :-[. I have shut off every single part of my brain except the bum changing, cooking basic meals part.   So I am sitting here with a coffee in one hand a cranky baby on my knee looking at what you wrote and just crying :'(.
Can you please rewrite what you wrote but put it like you are talking to a 4 year old?

I think what Smurfette suggests is to do

nap 1 @ 8.30/9

nap 2 @ 1pm

Then an earlier bedtime than she is having now, so in bed asleep for 6.30 maybe depending on how naps have gone.

I hope I go that right and {{{HUGS}}}} for you.

Oh gosh, HUGS hun!! What Lolly wrote is correct.

It will take some time to catch her up so please don't get discouraged if she still fights naps and/or bedtime-that's really common and normal when they're OT. Put her to bed early and even if it takes her 2 hours to fall asleep, it's all baby steps to get more sleep in her. But getting her to sleep at 9am and 1pm will be much more restorative then having her take a nap at 5, when her body is probably more ready for night sleep than a nap. Give it at least a consistent week and then reassess. If her afternoon nap is less than an hour and/or she wakes up crying/cranky-get her to bed for the night within 3 hours of her waking up.
OT accumulates in our bodies and she needs many, many days to get her back on track so don't give up!!!

Please feel free to ask more questions or PM me if you want. ((((HUGS!!!))))
