Can a room be too dark?
« on: November 01, 2012, 13:15:02 pm »
Hi

I've been having some problems with my DS early waking. I've blacked out his room so it is pitch dark so that he doesn't wake and see toys etc but sometimes I think he gets less wound up with a bit of light and wonder whether he wakes and can't see anything at all and doesn't like that. What does everyone else do with the amount of light? Do you have any experience of the amount of light making a difference?

Thanks

How old is your DS?  DD2 (4) has had a blacked out room her entire life, up until a couple of weeks ago when she started having panic attacks about spiders being in her room and I put a night light in.  Before that she was quite content to lay in the dark to fall asleep and was not disturbed by it when she woke up. When she was a baby, even the smallest bit of light would provide distraction from sleep!

Yes, my DD was like that and only at 2.5 wanted a night light, which worked well for moving her into a big bed. My DS is 9 months and I am just grasping at straws as to why he can't settle himself back at 4-5 am when he can the rest of the time.

Hi there :) EWs could be a routine issue rather than related to other factors like light-did you want to post your current routine to see if there's anything that jumps out?
