Dropping the Dream Feed
« on: November 07, 2012, 02:31:13 am »
Hello Mamas,

I am just looking for some information on dropping my son's dream feeds. He is eight months old. I df between 10 and 1030pm. He usually nurses every four hours starting around 630 am (5 nursing feeds during 24 hr period). What age is recommended to drop the df? Is there any benefits to drop it or to continue with the df? He sleeps from around 7pm - 630am with usually no wakes or feeding (except the df).

Thanks :)

There's some good info here: "How do I implement/drop the dreamfeed?" on how to drop it.  In the BW books, Tracy suggested to drop it when your baby is taking a good amount of solids.  Some people continue with it because they like the reassurance of the extra feed -- especially as some LOs are too distracted to feed well during daytime feedings at this point.  Some drop it because their LO isn't feeding as well first thing in the morning.  I kept it longer with my ds than my other two because he just seemed to need the calories more.

We are doing BLW so its hard to know if he is getting a good amount of solids. I know he is getting some, b/c I can see it in his poop (ewww). But I don't know if it is a lot in comparison to those who are spoon fed. He feeds well in the am. He wakes crying and screaming, and my boob is actually full and hard (this week at least it has been). Hmmmm??? Sometimes I feel like I want to so that I can go to sleep when I want to, then other times I still wanna cuddle my baby before bed :)

It's so lovely sometimes, isn't it?  :)

You could try making it a touch earlier (15-30 minutes) for a week or so and see how he does.
