Not Burping at Night Feeds
« on: November 28, 2012, 16:37:02 pm »
Just wondered if it is common for the baby to not burp at night feeds?  I feel bad putting him down after eating without a proper burp but he is passed out cold.  He then will often spit in his sleep and I find him laying in cold spit up.  THanks for any advice there might be!!!

I used to sit mine sideways on my knee and rock them gently backwards and forwards, even if they were fast asleep.  A burp usually popped out.

Sometimes it is really hard to get a burp during the night, though

This happens to me almost every night! i also feel terrible but I really really struggle to get any burps up. I dont usually use infacol during the night  but I think I will try tonight and see if it makes a difference.

I never burped any of mine during the night.  My understanding is that burping is for their comfort - to make sure that they haven't got air in their tummies making it uncomfortable - and therefore if he is not uncomfortable then there is no need to do it.

We only burp at night if she was given a bottle. Somehow with bottle feeding she swallows more air and wakes crying if she isn't burped. BF is somehow different, no burping needed here.

Ok that makes me feel better then.  I figured that burping at night was a lost cause but wanted to hear from others to know if that was normal.  Thanks all and have a nice day:)

My LC also said that burping wasn't necessary with BFing. I have found this to be true with all of my kids, but a bottle seems to make more of a difference. Not sure if that is true for every baby but seems to work for mine.
