Help with sleep training during teething - 14month old
« on: December 20, 2012, 09:40:22 am »
Hi everyone

My twins are very diferent and my son is a great sleeper quick 5 min cuddle and out for the count straight through to the moring  (7
pm to 7am)

His sister on the other hand has always been a light/difficult sleeper - always short naps in the day and now im looking back for the last 6 months since we've stopped night feeding always woke in the night for her dummy and ive realised in the last 4 months ive developed a terrible sleeping habit with her - when she woke in the night and she didnt go straight back to sleep i would lie her beside me on the the sofabed and we would fall asleep together, i would wake up and put her back in the cot - this would happen maybe twice a night

About 4 weeks ago, i started sleep training with the PU/PD - then hand on her back and it was workeing great - until she got ill with croup, since she has got better she became more clingier and started having tantrums when i wouldnt/couldnt pick her up in the day - she has gone from being a independnetn happy little thing to being slightly insecure when I am around she screams for me - for example at playgroup she woudl quite happily toddle off and play this week she played - suddenly stopped looked for me saw me then burst into tears and she has started crying when i drop her off at nursery - she was never like this, anyway

Now ive started the PU/PD / hand on back again,  she screams and arches her back and has a tantrum basically and i feel like i cant not pick her up.  When i pick her up she sometimes can just stay awake for 90 minutes she just wont go to sleeep even when im holding her - its like shes just not tired

She shares her room with her twin and at first i was wary of leaving her to cry in case it woke her brother up but hes not bothered

They both have around 1hr-1.5 hour nap around 11.30-12.00 and they may have a catnap in the afternoon but i try and make sure its not after 4pm and not for long ie 20m

Has anyone got any advice on what I should do as I really need some unbroken sleep and i really feel for her thinking she doesnt get enough sleep

I woudl say she is a spritied baby

Any advice and help will be greatly appreciated

How long have they been on one nap for? What's thier/ her wake up and bedtimes?

You can sleep train if they are teething but you need to make sure you are medicating her to keep pain levels down.

6-45 - 7 : wake up
12 nap for up to 1-5 hours
7 bedtime

Jess is getting later as taking longer to get to sleep am prob planning on letting her stay up till
7-30

Prob been on one nap for 6 weeksnow... Because they were having one big nap they wouldn't have afternoon nap till 3-3-30 which I thought was too late so merged it... To be honest jess never napped longer than 30 m but does nap now she's on one a day

How do I cope with the clingy ness when trying to sleep train ?,

Ok so tonight she goes to sleep after being held ... an hour later crying awake .  But she's wide awake and hasn't fallen back asleep yet .  Then she will just turn over and fall asleep 。心this happens maybe 5 nights a week .  So am I putting her to sleep to soon ... And I should prob stop holding her to sleep !!
What I can't understand of I can put my son down with no cuddles or anything and leave him to sleep by himself but she has never done that . Hence all the sleep ptood/ bad habits I've formed.  I'd it possible she is just a light sleeper ?
