6 wo naps
« on: December 30, 2012, 14:07:43 pm »
Hiya ladies. I have a 6 wo ds and I am struggling with naps since the past 3 days. I know he's definitely ot but I just can't seem to break that cycle. We don't have a routine yet but I know that he's awake for too long. I try to have him in bed an hour after he wakes up but he doesnt fall asleep straight away he fusses and talks to himself.

My question is how long should his awake time be and when should I have him down for wind down so that he can sleep. He's napping for only 30 mins. I'm exhausted. Nights are another story.

TIA

Hi hon- Generally at 6 weeks you are still looking at 1 hour- although some bubbas may be sneaking up to 1 hour and 5 mins or 10 mins.... I would THINK though that the 30 min nap is usually and over tired nap. The other thing to think of at this age is overstimulation- what is he doing in the A times? just eating, changing? how long is he sitting under an activity arch or something similar? crazy siblings tearing around the house and in his face?

I would try taking him up to bed 10 mins early or so- this gives him a chance to kick around and chat as he is- but also to have some quiet time to calm down. I would try less A time first and see if this helps?

Also- don't be afraid of APOPing (accidental parenting on purpose) at the end of the day- this is where you just do SOMETHING to get them to sleep- so holding, in the stroller, in a carrier, in the car- just to make sure she's getting enough sleep.

Also- does she seem to be in pain? Sometimes things ike reflux can be a real nap buster in these early weeks.

Hello Katy. Thanks for your reply back. He is definitely ot'ed as he sleeps after sometimes 2 hours  :o  :o. I never thought about him being overstimulated, but now you've mentioned it he most likely is. You've hit the nail right on the head because he does have 2 older brothers that run around the house and are always in his face  ;D

So starting from today I'm going to take him to bed 10 mins earlier and see how that works out. I have been doing a lot of  APOP to get him to nap and I'm worried it will come and bite me back on my behind lol.

He doesn't seem like he's in pain. I know the signs of reflux since his older brother suffered with it when he was a baby.

I'll keep you posted with how my day is today. I pray a lot better than the last couple of days.
