11 week old wants long naps, always have to wake her!
« on: December 31, 2012, 16:48:46 pm »
My DD is almost 11 weeks old. She has MSPI, but we are (I think) finally getting her healthy and feeling better with an elimination diet for me. She's BF. We have been doing EASY for about 1.5 weeks now, but the problem is, I have to wake her up from every single nap! I cap it off at 2 hours so as to not get too off schedule but instead of a 3 hour EASY its like we are on a 3.5 hour EASY, which makes the end of our day difficult in terms of keeping on schedule with a decent bedtime. I am trying to force a quick 30-40 minute nap which we struggle with. It's a little too early for bedtime but I can't stretch her wake time too much.

Also, when I wake her up, it is a struggle to get her to take a full feeding, as she is still sleepy and tries to go back to sleep. Should I continue to wake her so she will learn to wake on her own? If she continues, how do I ensure a full feeding if she is sleepy? Would it ever be ok to let her sleep? It just seems off to have rouse her from a deep sleep every time!

Our EASY looks something like this:
E 7:30
A
S 8:45

E 10:45
A
S 12

E 2
A
S 3:30

E 5:30
A
S 6:45

E 7:25
A
S 8:45

She usually wakes 2-3 times per night. I thought limiting her daytime sleep may help with less nightwakings but so far no luck.

Any advice on the long naps or any other advice/suggestions on tweaking the EASY? Thanks so much!

HI hon,

If it were me i'd actually just let her sleep for the 3 hours and wake her after that. My guy was also a sleepy head! Are you worried about her weight? If you aren't too concerned then you should be right on a 3.5 or 4 hour EASY. My guy actually was happy eating 4 hourly from very early on. not every one's baby does this- but some do. Remember you need to be following the cues- and the cues seem to be suggesting (from what you have above) that she needs to sleep a little longer.

As far as night waking- it's still pretty normal to be waking 2-3 times for a feed at night. Are you feeding at these wakings ? She may well still be needing the feeds.

My guy was and still is a sleepy head! There were some A times that he didn't even wake up for!! I would try things like a nappy change and everything- no luck!!
