Tips for switching to a bottle
« on: December 30, 2012, 18:49:54 pm »
Hello! DS is nearly 6months. I'd like him to start taking a bottle in the evening. Any tips? He does not seem to like it. I can't tell if it's the taste of the formula or the bottle it's self.

Hi, we have several FAQs on getting your BF baby to take a bottle. Have you seen these? Breastfed babies and bottles (4 more links in the FAQ itself)

Have a look and let us know if you have any specific questions :)

I know some mums on here tried before every feed for a month before their LO too the bottle. Yes I would t ry more than once a day if she isn't taking to it.

Are you offering straight formula? Maybe you need to graduate it with breast milk. So start off 1oz formula with the rest breast milk and when he is taking that drop it down by an oz while increasing the formula. Will he take EBM?

I've just tried formula, I guess I should try just breast milk see if it's the bottle he doesn't like or the taste of formula. I've just been lazy and trying not to pump.

Bear in mind with EBM that some LOs can be particular about the temperature of that when it's offered too, so you may need to use a bit of trial and error to see how you go
