Gripe water
« on: January 03, 2013, 23:09:34 pm »
My DD is 11 weeks old and has had fussy evenings since week 3. I am beginning to think she is slightly colic, she squirms and has a lot of gas. Sometimes she is really difficult to burp and cries in pain lifting her little legs. This happens roughly the same time every night for a couple of hours. I'm going to try Gripe Water, has anyone used this and did you find it effective?
Thanks,
Lisa to Emily-Mae

She is exclusively BF and I have an oversupply of milk and a quick let down which contributes to her wind. I have tried expressing the first ounce just so the flow isn't too quick for her.

When my dd was 5 - 6 weeks old, she had issues with gas.  I used simethacone (Ovol in Canada) to help her burp.  With my son, we tried gripe water but I can't say that it was as effective as the Ovol.

I found gripe water great for my ds1 - he had wicked silent reflux and wind issues ::)
I found its good for ds2 - especially with hiccups but now he is on the bottle I need infacol (same as oval) to get the wind up.

It's pretty safe to use so I think it's worth a shot. Personally we administer with a syringe, and I rarely give the full dose. Sometimes if I just need LO to take the paci I dip this in the gripe too ;) :-*

We used Colic Calm, which is a gripe water, and were very happy with it. It does stain terribly, but we did think that it helped!

Thanks, used it yesterday and today. Have a much happier baby, sleeping for longer during her naps too as I think before she was waking with griping pains.

we used gripe water, and it was fab for our DD3 (we would feed her with a pipette syringe to feed her the sticky liquid!) worked more effectively than infacol

I have fond memories of boarding a plane alone with Oscar hanging out of my legs, Emma screaming in the sling and then being told we'd be on a bus out to the plane, not boarding immediately...and had to get out my magic bottle - of course it was in a container filled with only 100mls but it was gripe water and calmed her down enough to survive the boarding, the walk to the bus, plane etc till I got O settled and could feed her in peace. Feels like a million years ago but has to be less than 4 ;-)

Shivi,
Good to hear the plane story - we are off to South Africa in march and I'm not looking forward to the eleven hour flight!
