will not go to bed
« on: January 20, 2013, 13:16:41 pm »
Hi
My daughter is 9weeks old now and this is our 3rd child.  Each one has been on the EASY routine and we have had no problems however this one is proving to be a mystery can you shed any light.  She is breast fed The routine is as follows:
7:30am EAT
8:00am ACTIVITY (Bum change and short play with mum sisters or on gym)
8:45am SLEEP (in cot)
10:00am EAT (only goes about 2.5 hrs on this one)
10:30am ACTIVITY (Bum change and short play with mum sisters or on gym)
11:45am SLEEP (sometimes on pram for a walk or cot)
13:00 EAT
13:30 ACTIVITY (Bum change and short play with mum sisters or on gym)
14:30 SLEEP (Pram school pick up)
16:00 EAT
16:30 ACTIVITY (Bum change and short play with mum or sisters or on gym)
17:30 SLEEP (Only sleeps for up to an hour)
18:30 EAT (Quite time in room away for hussle and bustle of the house)
19:00 ACTIVITY (Story time and bath time)
20:00 SLEEP TIME (Bed time)  will not settle on this nap been doing the same thing since day 6 as she was in neonatel for first 5 days.  I eventually feed her at 21:00 then she finally settles for about 9:30/10pm.
tried feeding her after bath to calm her down instead as she gets very excited in bath (loves it) but still she will not settle until 9:30/10pmish.

all this takes place in her own room we never come out.  What are we doing wrong???

I think she is getting OT. Average A times for a 2mo is around 1hr15-20 and that would be after a full nap of 1.5hrs or more. Some of your DD's, especially later in the day, are creeping up to 1hr30-45 and she has not had a full, restorative nap before them. Average A times and "Is my baby ready to increase A time?"

I would start with pulling the A times right back to 1hr15 or so (less if she has a short nap) and see if she manages better. Bringing bedtime earlier by half an hour may also help so that she isn't doing more than a 12hr day.

Also if you feel she gets overstimulated (OS) by the bath she may do better with a bath earlier in the day. I used to do the bath when I got mine dressed in the morning. That might be worth a try, or in another A time if you have to rush for a school run first thing.

Having things hanging over LO,s head, such as those dangly toys in a gym, can also cause OS as can active older children so that may also be sometime to consider. Hard to avoid sometimes though I appreciate.

A consistent wind down routine can also help. There is an example of one here What does a good wind down consist of (Includes 4S ritual)
