9 months and 4 days old. One huge nap....?
« on: January 08, 2013, 21:19:59 pm »
Hi all, haven't posted for a loooooong time, and I have had a look to see if I can find something to answer this but I can't see what I'm after.

My son has decided to stop sleeping in the afternoon? Just randomly, overnight, it's like he woke up and decided not to do it any more and we were on a great routine, like absolute clockwork!

He's not waking early in the mornings, he doesn't seem to be miserable about it in any way, but it is very odd and I wonder if I'm a few more days away from some awful irreparable OT-ness?

I've tried cutting his AM nap to 1-1.25hrs thinking he must be tired enough for another one in the PM, but if he did have it he woke very upset about 40mins later then wouldn't go to bed a bedtime. Today I let him go for as long as he liked for his AM nap (which actually was at 11am) and he went for 2.5hrs so I brought bedtime forward and he went down fine....

He's been a bit odd when I walk out the room etc lately, crying etc so I'm guessing SA is round the corner...

I just wonder if 2.5hrs daytime sleep is actually enough or....?

I'm obviously not 'wanting' 1 nap per day, I just want what's best for him and wondered if this is common or if I'm missing something. It just doesn't seem right to me - even though he seems fine with it.

Cheers peeps :) xx

At this age if they do too many days of one nap the OT will sneak up on them and then you'll be in a right mess! One or 2 days might be ok- but you probably still want to be aiming for him to have 2 naps for another couple of months. Hopefully this is just a blip. I think at that age i actually tried offerring the morning nap earlier in the day- we set the nap at 10 30 or so... he would usually still do a good nap at that time, plus have time for a second...

I am having this same problem!  My ds just turned 10mo.  He just woke up earlier this week & decided he no longer wants to nap in the afternoon!!  He too was like clock work!  Napped wonderful!!  I don't know what to do now.  I tried cutting his morning nap shorter but it didn't make a difference.  I know he is tired, because he still shows the same cues as before.  He doesn't cry when I put him to bed.  He just sits/stands in there "talking".  I have tried not going in at all & just seeing if he will eventually go to sleep...No.  I have tried going in there, laying him back down.....No!  Nothing is working!!!  And because of this the evenings are miserable!!!  I am going crazy!  I don't know if it is still too soon to go down to just one nap or what.  I haven't tried that yet.  UGH!  If you find something that works let me know!!!  Good Luck!!

Hi all thanks for your replies. I think we've found some sort of happy medium, I've always been frightened of making the am nap earlier in case he starts waking early - I have a 6am minimum ha! But after about a week of everything being up in the air I think we may finally be back on some kind of track. He's started napping for 45mins-1hr in the morning (I assume that's where I have brought it forward he doesn't need as long?), waking for lunch, then going back off around 3 til about 4. So his total day sleep is now at about 2hrs but he's been going off at bedtime better (not so wired) and getting about 12hrs sleep at night. So fingers crossed this is how we will continue for a while - until the next phase!

DeeDeew how is it going for you? Xx

Things have been up and down here.  But I think that is due to sickness.  DS has been sick off & on for about a month now!  :(  For the most part things are pretty good.  I made his awake time a little longer & his morning nap is now just an hour long.  Hopefully this will last a good bit!  LOL!  Glad you found something that works for you!!

Oh sickness is horrible isn't it, we've been the same here since Christmas, first a terrible cold, then a bug, now a cold that wasn't as bad as the first one! Seems like you never get out of it hey! Xx
