18 month old and 1 nap gone a bit off..
« on: January 31, 2013, 12:45:47 pm »
Hello there,

My DS used to be fantastic at going down for his nap at 1pm, he'd go to sleep almost instantly! But now he's chatting to himself, laughing, banging legs on cot etc...he just doesn't seem tired. But he must be right?

He WU anywhere between 7-7.45am (believe me it took me a long while to get him here) and naps from 1-3pm and BT is 8pm. This has been amazing the last while. Do you think I should put him down for his nap at 1.15? 1.30? It just seems very late! When he does eventually fall asleep it is about 1.20/1.30pm. Sometimes I have to wake him at 3 to preserve BT, other times I might leave him sleep a bit but no later than 3.30pm.

I've introduced a mickey mouse pillow and blanket and he absolutely LOVES them. Wants to bring them everywhere. However I only leave him have them at nap time to get him used to them and teach him to put the blanket over him. ( he keeps taking off his grow bag!) do you think that's it? maybe he thinks they are a game?

I couldn't take them away now as he nearly runs up the stairs when I mention them! It's so cute!

So I wonder is it them or do I need to put him to bed later?

Thanks a mill x

Hey Melissa ;)

It could be the new items but really does sound more like the 18 month regression to me.  Babies will drop total sleep a fairly good amount (some up to 2 hrs per day total) and will not seem any worse for it.  It's quite odd really.. generally lasts about 3-6 weeks and will stop just as fast as it started.  Best course of action is to remain consistent with nap and BT... toss in an EBT if you get a total busted nap (we had a few total refusals!).

There is a support thread as well :)

Just going to pop you over to Sleeping for Toddlers too.
