When DTS effects night sleep
« on: February 07, 2013, 15:32:27 pm »
I don't know if I'm doing things right. I never get LO up until 7am each morning, he often wakes before then (about 6am) but never gets upset and sometimes nods back off I think, so I refuse to start the day until 7am - which is an appropriate time in my eyes. He has a bedtime of about 6:30pm so I'm not sure if he actually does a night of about 11hrs and I should tweak things so we don't get in a muddle further down the line. He has upto 4hrs DTS, does this sound right? Too much?

Tracy advocated a 12 hr day at this age so if you want to start the day at 7am, bedtime should be 7pm.

Typical at this age is 2 naps of 1.5-2hrs plus a CN of no more than 45 mins.  Nights average 11-12 hrs.

If he is happy and sleeping through the night, I would leave things as they are :)

He doesn't sleep through. Still wakes for a small feed (DF didn't work for us so I'm happy with the night feed) and then wakes early morning. He's started refusing the CN eve when I apop (unless a bad nap day) and out in car/pushchair so a 7pm bed time seems a long way off yet. I think he may be a higher sleep needs baby so ill just go with it for now :)
Thank you for your advice x

good plan - when it doesn't work, then we tweak :)
