Too long of naps?
« on: February 13, 2013, 21:26:24 pm »
My 7.5 month old has been waking at 6am meaning nap comes at 8ish for 2 hours of sleep. He's then awake until 1 when his second, 2 hour nap comes. Is it ok to let him sleep this much during the day? He's waking once at night to feed.

2 hours twice a day is fine.

Actually the better they sleep during the day, the better they sleep at night! So I'm learning. The main think Tracy says in her book is that you don't have a very long stretch, to make sure you never let them sleep through a daytime feed.

Also as far as waking up at night i read that if its at the same time every night it's likely just habitual waking and you can try to wean them from it by comforting them without food or giving them less every night. If it's erratic and at different times it's more likely that they are actually hungry. Different babies mature differently it could be he just still needs food? Do you dream feed? I want to start that but I'm so afraid to wake him. And do you Tank him up? Both suggestions to prevent night waking.

Below is a link to sample Routines for babies the same as yours and they all have 1.5 to 2 hour naps. chronological EASY samples, 7-9 months

I Hope his helps!

What time does he go to bed? 4hr day sleep is fine at this age, but if it starts to take away from night sleep that's when you'll want to cut it. Waking once at night to feed is totally normal for this age as well... I'm assuming you BF?
