Big baby boy not making it as long at night as to be expected?!
« on: February 19, 2013, 08:57:45 am »
Hi there,

I had my baby boy four weeks ago and he was a big boy weighing in at 9lb2oz. He was weighed last week and is already 10lb7oz so is piling on the weight so there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my milk. We follow easy and he feeds every 3 hours in the day plus cluster feeding at 6 and 8pm however after the dream feed at 10.30ish LO will only do a three hour stretch and I thought he may be pushing it out by now? For example last night he had the dream feed at 10.40, woke at 1.20 for a feed and then 4.35 and then we started the day at 7am again this morning.

My older boy was a whole 2lb smaller at birth and was doing 11pm - 6am by 8 weeks. Am I just being impatient or should bigger babies be able to do larger stretches at night at four weeks? He is suffering terribly with wind/ colic however his new medicine seems to be helping a lot more and he seems to be settled but I wasn't sure if this was interferring or if he was maybe not eating enough at his DF? My second son does feed very quickly so it's hard to tell sometimes?!

Thanks for your help,

V xxx

Given how well he is doing and given hes only 4 weeks old id say waking 3 hourly at night is pretty typical.I do think it'll even out in a few more weeks.  Both mine were big babies and it didnt mean they were able
To sleep any longer.  You're doing great xx

I had a big baby also and she woke up every 3 hours to eat.  It took till about 9 or 10 weeks before she gave me 1 longer stretch.

This was our experience too.  My biggest actually needed to eat the most at night.

Thanks for getting back in touch everyone and reassuring :-) I suppose he'll make it there with time and I need to be patient and not compare with my eldest boy. Thanks again xxxxx
