signs to increase A time?
« on: February 14, 2013, 19:47:54 pm »
my 4.5 month old has just begun taking great naps (past 2 weeks) for 1.5-2 hrs each.

I have found that 1hr50min A time works well for her.  And she eats every 4 hours.

but for the past 2 days, she started waking at 40 min. She wakes happy.  I just reswaddle her and put on white noise and she goes back to sleep in 15min.

Does she need longer A times? what are the signs? or why is she waking earlier?

She sleeps straight from 930pm-230am, but then she wakes every hour until 645/7...i guess she comes out of her sleep cycle every hour.

She never cries though, she just coos and bangs her feet until she goes back again, but sometimes it takes her 10-30min.

is this normal??? she is a happy baby throughout the day and just recently she naps for 1.5 hrs, she use to do 45 min naps.

any other babies that do this? I'm first time mom so i don't know what to expect :-*

It sounds like you need some more A time during the day -- acting very wide awake at night usually means that they need to be awake more during the day.  Could you post what your routine looks like right now in this format --

(no great detail, just times) and we can see if something needs to be tweaked.

Waking happy at 40 mins can be a sign of UT (although it could also be developmental at this age).  That A time could be a bit short for her  - the average for this age is around 2 hours. Is my baby ready to increase his ‘A’ time? (incl. 'A' times for younger babies) You could try increasing by 10-15 mins and hold for 3-4 days to see if it helps.

You need to stick with a change for several days to see if it's working - it can take that long for LO to adjust. If the first nap is short (less than 1hr), you may need to reduce the next A time to avoid OT - so perhaps around 1hr40/45 total A. Then try the longer A for the first nap again the next day.
