Props - 3.5 week old
« on: February 16, 2013, 20:24:29 pm »
Is it normal to mainly use props of some sort to get 3.5 week old to nap?

I always seem so scared to start bad habits and can't remember how I did it with dd1.  I often use white noise, have tried dummy but failed, rocking, rocking in car seat, feeding etc

Is this normal and something I just think about changing as she gets a little older?

Totally normal and perfectly fine hun.  Snuggle away till your hearts content.  Day sleep etc will start to even out a bit around 3 months, until then, just try to have one sleep a day in the crib (do whatever needs to be done to help LO off to sleep if he/she is struggling).. feel free to AP naps otherwise... at this age, OT can happen so quickly and send LO over the edge with no way to come back that you are often better off to keep that under control.  Try to do a basic eat, play sleep pattern but don't worry about clock watching too much... remember that A times are really short though!

Thank you. That's made me feel a whole lot better. And so much less guilty that I'm just taking the easy option out if she's not in her cot!!

Only thing I have found is that I can get her to sleep quite easily in her cot first thing ( usually with white noise) but then she wakes after 45 mins /1 hr and I don't know how to settle her in her coy again so have to settle and keep her out. Should I persist with extendingit in the cot or not worry.

Thanks somuch,

I wouldn't worry hun... a sleep cycle in the cot is good for this age ;)

Take her out and have a snuggle... do you have a carrier, like an Ergo?

Yes I have a carrier which I've just started Iain and has really helped me out when it comes to dealing with my eldest at nap time etc.

Thanks for your advise, I think it'll help me ease up a bit over the next few weeks

Enjoy the new baby hun... as I am sure you remember, they don't stay this little for long  :)  Lots of time to deal with sleep habits!
