Naps/feeds
« on: March 01, 2013, 20:35:19 pm »
From previous thread - posted by Kara
Just a warning - the average of 15-18 hrs for babies up to 18 months is higher than what we generally see in real babies.

At 4 months, average would be 11-12 hrs at night with one/two NFs and three naps (2 of 1.5 hrs and a CN of 45-60 mins.)
==========================================================================================

Kara, with a baby of 4 months, you have that the naps should be 1.5hrs. If the child is on 4hour EASY and can stay awake for 2 hours from when eyes opened to eyes closed, what should you do for the remaining half an hour? See below what I mean
Eg
Eat 7.00
Activity 2 hours 7-9
Sleep 9-10.30 (1.5 hours)

The next feed is not due until 11.00. What should you do from 10.30 to 11.00? And this then starts the new A time.
Thanks

^^  Baby was not 4 months old in other poster's situation and not many are actually ready for a 4 hr EASY in terms of awake times until closer to 4.5 months ;)  This is the age that a 3.5 hr EASY is common, give or take 15 mins either side...

Typical would be this:

E: 7am wake
A:
S: 845am-1030am  etc...

Some will still have a third nap over the typical CN length and will take a good 1.25 hrs then as well - depends on night length really.

Is she closer to 4 months or 5?

Was she able to move to a 4 hr EASY?  breast/bottle?

She just turned four months last week but was 10 days over.
I put her to bed this morning after 1.5h, she was starting to get upset so will lof how long she stays asleep and see about keeping her up longer for the next A. She is bottle fed. Thanks

I wouldn't really put too much on the 10 days over part at this point... by 6 months, most are on track so at 4 months, 10 days over is really only gonna have an effect of a few days ;)

It's not uncommon for babies to like a shorter first A time... Is she in that awkward phase where her E times are 4 hrs apart but she can't do the A times yet?  This is really common with bottle fed babies (mine had a really tough patch for a while).

**  Just going to split you off onto your own thread as well :)
