Waking earlier than used to - 26month old
« on: March 08, 2013, 13:39:15 pm »
My 26 month old has started waking at about 6:10am again. Had been more like 7 for ages since we bought a sleep training clock.

We always aim to leave her bedroom at 6:50pm when we put her to bed, but have been getting later and later often leaving around 7:20 and then taken her approx 20 minutes to get to sleep.

She naps everyday. The timing varies depending on if it's a nursery day or not. She goes for nap anytime between 12:30 and 1:30, and sometimes asleep as late as 2pm. She'll normally naturally sleep for 1.5-2 hrs but always wake her by 3:15 if she's gone for a later nap. We don't wait for any sleep signs, just whatever suits. Seems to love her nap and goes down easily.

Any ideas what we should do to get her sleeping nearer to 7 again? I'm not sure whether her nap is too long, we are expecting too much night time sleep, or the opposite and we are getting her down too late at night or not allowing her enough long naps.

Only other thing to mention, she also ha a new 6 week old sister so obviously this could be effecting her too!

Thanks for your thoughts in advance,

Kristy

I suspect you may need a slightly later bedtime or to cap the nap a little. At this age, she may not be able to do a 12 hour night AND a 1.5hr nap. You could also consider putting a Groclock in her room, so that she might be at least able to stay quietly in her room for a while before waking up the household...?

You think later than 7:40 even? So at the moment she's only getting about 10.5 hours? Not sure how to make that longer except by bringing bedtime earlier. And she always seems so tired cos she becomes quite sensitive and emotional!

We haves gro clock actually which had worked really well or us. Recently been goin in before the sun comes up as this is more than an hour after she wakes and she does get really fed up by then so I've moved the time back half hour tonight so at least we are not making the clock pointless.

Thank for thoughts though, ill have a little look at night sleep length

I think Anna is getting to the fact that her A time after the nap is rather short, not so much as the issue of her night length...   She is likely not tired enough to go right to sleep after such a short PM A time.

But, she didn't get put to bed at 7.40, once she's in bed and UT that's when things go screwy. I'd try either capping her nap, or doing a later bedtime, like 8pm. It might take a few days for the morning to lengthen.

Oh I see. Yes, I often think its too late for her nap. She is often up at 2:30 if she's had a long nap, it's only 3:15 if her nap is short, like an hour. So my only other option on those days is to skip the nap which we've never yet done!
Should I try this? Also what time should be the latest she naps?

And it's not she's taking along time to fall asleep, that's the time we've been getting her to bed. It's just crept later and later, mainly due to the new baby!

We've had a couple of other issues the past couple of night, I think all related to the new baby so may just tackle that first.

Thanks k x

Posted the above before I'd read yr next reply. Ok thanks, maybe we'll give this a try. Although she is very irritable during bedtime. I think we have a few other issues going on with the new baby.
