2 years old NWs!!
« on: March 06, 2013, 21:26:13 pm »
Hi there,

My 2 years old boy has been waking up almost every night since October ( 5 months!) and I don’t know exactly what is the best to do. There isn't apparently anything wrong. When he walks up, I wait to see if he would calm down on his own, this very rarely happens to be honest. So after a few minutes I go in, and he automatically stop crying, I always say the same to him “It’s time to sleep” I tuck him in and I leave the room. This process takes me a minute or two and he goes back to sleep. He wakes up usually at around 11pm or at 4am but now he has being waking up at around  11pm , 4am and 6am when he used to wake up after 7am.

In December we went away to South America, and I thought, well, with the time difference I’m sure we will break the habit, which he did the first few days, but then he started to wake up again.

He has good naps usually he naps for  1 ½ and goes easily to sleep at bedtime.

Our routine looks like this:

7ish wake
12.30/1 nap
7.30 bedtime (11ish pm NW  and 3 or 4am NW)

Just wondering whats going on?

I make sure he is not hungry or cold in his room. I don't know what is causing the waking up and what to do to get him to sleep through, we are exhausted as he wakes up almost everyday  :(

Many thanks ladies xxx

When is his birthday - is he just 2 or nearly 3?

Does he have all his molars through - they take a looong time and are painful, does giving meds at bedtime help?

The other thing you could try is a different bedtime. Many toddlers need  a 13 hour day with a nap so you could try extending his day a bit or alternatively do an earlier bedtime. Either one you will need to be consistent with for a good week to see if ti helps.

Hi Laura,

thanks for your reply.

He just turned 2 a couple of weeks ago and yes I could see last week his mollars coming through, it could having that so. He didn;t wake up last night :-) , but if he does tonight  I'll try your suggestion and try to extend his day and see if that helps.

Thanks very much for your help :-)
