EW 1 year old - reminder needed!
« on: May 01, 2013, 04:50:18 am »
Can someone please remind me what to do about the EWs for my 1 year old. Over the past few days he has slept really well in the night, only waking once for about 20 seconds but we're getting 5.30am starts.

His EASY looks like this at the moment -

WU 5.30am
S 9.30am - 10.30am
A
S 3.00pm - 4.30pm
A
Bath bottle bed - 6.30pm (in bed by 7pm)

I know that means his day is 13.5 hrs so do I need to do some nap tweaking to get it shorter or does it really matter? I was doing a 30/40 min nap in the morning followed by a 2hr nap in the afternoon. Should I work more towards that even with the EW?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi there,

Sounds like your DS is transitioning from 2-1 naps and probably needs a bit less daytime sleep.

At this stage you could try
- capping the morning nap to eg 30-45 mins, and poss pushing it a bit later (eg 30 mins). You may have to bring pm nap a bit earlier after shorter am nap; or
- pushing am nap out later, letting your DS sleep as long as wants, then doing pm catnap to make it to BT

With EWs, lots of people find the first of these options works best.
What do you think?

Cool - that's kind of what I was doing when I was getting 7am wake ups but wasn't sure if to do the same with a 5.30am wake up.

I'll give it a go! To be honest, the nights are much much better than they were and I'm not THAT fussed with an EW as it just means I go to bed earlier. You win some you lose some!

I can be a bit of a vicious circle (we were in it too when we did the 2-1) when you let LO have longer/early nap to catch up after EW, but that just perpetuates the EW...

Sometimes you just have to take the step to help things move along.

If you suspect OT is creeping in during the changes, then it's usually better to give an EBT than lengthen am nap again.

Keep us posted on how you're getting on :)
