WORRIED 4 HOUR EASY WILL RUIN HIS ENJOYMENT
« on: July 11, 2013, 10:07:25 am »
Good Morning All

I have a wonderful 15 1/2 week old boy, whom I treasure and want to make him happy ( as im sure you all do). Morgan was born 5lb 11 oz with forceps delivery and I was diabetic through pregnancy due to this we struggled with breast feeding and after his weight dropped to 4lb 11oz in 2 weeks I had  to top him up with formular. Once he had the easiness of a bottle he refused to latch, After 6 weeks of hell expressing and trying to get him to latch on it was agreed he would be formular fed.  Morgan has been on 3 hr easy since week 6 and most of the time we do well.

Past 48 hours hes not taking his bottle, hes gone form 6 oz to 3-4 oz and im thinking its time to change to four hour easy, I have Traceys books so Im all ready to go BUT I have one niggly problem in my mind before I take the leap.

Morgan goes swimming twice a week and to baby club once a week, Morgan seems to enjoy both activities, my problem is, on the 4hr easy he would be asleep at the times the swimming pool is open and when he would normally be enjoying sensory time at the baby club. I don't want to stop him from doing these activities especially the swimming as already weve progressed from just sitting in the water in my arms to actually paddling legs and arms..........so does any one have any suggestions.

THE POOL IS OPEN 1-2 PM TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS AND BABY CLUB IS THURSDAYS 1-2.30PM

CURRENT EASY

I wake Morgan at 7-7.30
feed
A = 1.5 TO 2 HRS (UNLESS CRANKY AFTER AN HOUR)
S = 1.5 TO 2 HRS (I RESETTLE IF HE WAKES SOONER)
Y = HOUSEWORK  :(

The middle of the day depends on life but Morgan eats and then sleeps in his buggy if weve had to go out, as for his activity here I take him out to walk the dog and generally he falls asleep on the way home.

E 10.00 OR 10.30
A 1 HOUR WALKING AS HE NORMALLY FALLS ASLEEP
S 40 MINS-1HOUR

Afternoon again he sleeps after his activities for 2 hours usually 2-4 or 3-5
E 13.00 OR 13.30
A 1.5 OR 2 DEPENDING ON DAY OF WEEK
S 2 HRS
Y

E 16.00 0R 16.30
A 1.5 HOURS TO 2 WALK THEW DOG AGAIN AND SOMETIMES MORGAN SNOOZES
S NO MORE THEN 40 MINS I AWAKE AS TOO CLOSE TO BED TIME
Y
bed time routine always bath at 6.45, massage 7.00, feed and in bed by 7.30, I adjust this depending on his awake time if ive got him up at 7 in bed by 7.

DREAM FEED 10PM 2-3 0Z

Any suggestions  !!!!

First, I think that all in all his A time needs to be a bit higher than it is now. In the morning it looks ok, but 1h A time at his age is not enough for him anymore.
I think what you could do is on those three days that you want him to be out and awake around 13 is to offer a CN before you want him to be awake.
For example:
7WU
9-10:30 S
10:30-12 A
12-12:45 S
And then go to the pool.
It's not great, yeah? but it's the only way I can think how it can work for you right now. Within time his A times will stretch anyway and naps will be in different times than they are now.
Actually I have another idea. You could offer the CN earlier in the morning, like 1-1.5h after waking up and only let him nap very short, like 30min and then have the next nap after 1.5-2h A time and aim for it to be long. But I'd only do that if the first option doesn't work.
I would also try and make sure that the rest of the days you are at home and offering him enough day sleep to catch up.
What do you think?
