A little girl and her dolly

It is AMAZING to me how Audrey dotes on her little baby doll. She was given this doll (small, plastic arms and head, cloth body) by my dad for her first birthday and her little face *lit*up* when she opened it. Every day 'baby' goes through endless cycles of nappy; sleep; yoghurt; cry; buggy; (etc etc etc). She even sits it on her hip to carry her room to room, jiggles her when she's 'crying'. Contrast with Stan who would tip over a toy buggy to spin the wheels.

Baby's outfit (an all in one, and hat) is lost I think, so the first thing I could do to enrich this play a little is make some easy-to-manage clothes.

But my question is, if your little one enjoys playing with his or her dolls, are there any favourite accessories? We have a little buggy that gets a lot of use, but that's it really. A shoe box for a bed. Maybe a little blanket?

Clothes, shoes, a bottle, a buggy, a blanket, a spoon and a wee plate, a friend, a book, a shovel and bucket...

If you have any left over, unused baby items, I set those aside to play with.

Pacifiers, newborn diapers, empty travel wipes container, baby brush, baby toothbrush, old baby clothes that fit the baby, small plastic dish, baby spoon, baby books, doll high chair.....  Anything that we use as parents.

L is similar with her dolls!

She loves doing parties/tea parties with them.  She has a tea set she uses and some cakes with a cake stand, but is also quite happy if I just give her a bowl with some uncooked pasta in it and a spoon so she can feed them.

Did you wear her?  If so, make her a baby carrier.

Millie used to push her baby in a little shopping cart around the house, grabbing itmes as she went.   

 YES to a blanket!!!!  We got a 2-pack of doll diapers for about 3 dollars...she LOVED changing diapers!!!    A bottle too. (we had one of those where the milk disappears as you tilt it!) And a spoon and bowl to feed her.

Area to Change baby's diapers.

If you have a rocking chair, maybe you can set things up near it so DD can sit and rock the baby and read to the baby.

For sure doll diapers, clothes, bibs, etc.  We also had a little high chair that they loved using, until it broke! Keep meaning to ask my dad to see if he can make a better one (ours was cheap plastic). Oh and we got a tiny doll tub that came with cloths, towel, rubber ducky, and pretend soaps at the dollar store.

Oh for sure. I forgot about the potty! we have a teeny little potty, always causes a moment of alarm when Audrey gets it out and says "Audo weewee potty?"

Well all I got around to so far was finding a little storage basket that fits the dolly and cutting out a piece of fleece to be a blanket. Oh and we found a couple of old weaning spoons and empty yoghurt pots. Audrey was BESIDE HERSELF when she found baby asleep with a 'pancake' (blanket). And she's been BFing her dolly

Emma still does....and swaddles are going very well now, she can do them herself!

I was never a dolly-little-girl but its so much fun having a dolly-loving child in the house!

And yes, girls are so much fun but I have to say I consider myself very blessed to have two healthy one-of-each as I got to do Bob the Builder (he was my fave when Ozzie was a toddler) which having had no brothers (and a very girly dolly-loving sister 2.5 yrs younger than me) was a real ride - and still is. A bit easier now though as Oscar's main loves are footie and geography and I love both of these things too!

Emma used her bimbo (is that what they're called) for her dolly on the floor when she was 1.5-2yrs before I gave it away to someone as a highchair for dolly. I have some supercute photos of early symbolic play at that age with dolly!
