Hidden veggies suggestion
« on: August 02, 2013, 03:11:06 am »
I am the most evil mummy ever! I found this recipe for a toddler friendly green smoothie on (you guessed it) pinterest: http://pinterest.com/pin/181762534933972517/

So i made it for hamish, a big batch, and as we didn't have a wide enough straw cup he had to have it from a cup- FAIL! It was way too chunky to have from a cup- it was the sort of thing that even an adult would struggle with i think...

SOOO- I then popped it into my iceblock maker and voila!! A whole bunch of hugely healthy ice blocks that hamish can't get enough of!!! He has one every second day or so and has no idea that he's having a bunch of carrots, beans and spinach!! Not to mention the banana and yoghurt! As i had no strawberries as per the recipe i instead used unsweetened apple puree (i think that's like unsweetened apple sauce) and a teaspoon of low sugar strawwberry jam... by that point i felt like a mad scientist!! ;D

Lol, that's awesome!

DD is fairly good about eating veggies, but has recently developed a weird obsession with ice.  So this is perfect - healthy hydrating goodness!

It was pretty amazing- for a toddler the main flavour was really banana- for an adult the fact that they are bright green and have a faint flavour of spinach might tip you off...

F will drink any kind of smoothie EXCEPT a green one - it doesn't matter what it tastes like, she's in that real phase of suspicion of all things green. ::) But I hadn't thought to try freezing them - good plan!

It probably helped that i already had made a huge batch of kiwi fruit juice ice blocks for the dinosaur party and forgot to have them ::) so he's been eating green ice blocks for ages! You could call them dinosaur iceblocks- there's also an episode of peppa pig where miss rabbit makes a green smoothie for george and i dont think it has spinach in it- the episode is called 'fruit' i think.. season 6...
