short naps, EW, NW you name it! Help!
« on: August 29, 2013, 05:58:03 am »
Help! My daughter is 5.5months and has always been a fragile sleeper but in the last few weeks everything has gone to pot. We've been working a four hourly routine and i was just considering dropping the cat nap when things started going haywaire and now i daren't!

Her morning nap is now only half an hour (try really hard to get her back to sleep but she just blows raspberries). I would put her down later but she is crying or falling asleep in her chair by 8.30 (she has been waking up earlier and earlier too) which is messing up her routine big time as i'm now trying to wean her too.

I think she has silent reflux as it still takes up to an hour to feed her a bottle despite being on gaviscon (off to the dr's again to day hopefully...)

Her routine the last week or so looks something like this:

6.00 wake (although today it was 5.30)
E- 7.00 (bottle) breakfast around 8ish
A
S-8.30/9 (she's totally shattered by that point, but only 30mins.....
A
E-11 (bottle) then food at 11.30 (often miserable by now as very tired)
S-12.00 (wakes after 45mins, but usually manage to get her back to sleep for say 1.5hrs in total)
A
E-3.00
S-4/4.30 depends on what time she woke up (for 30/45mins)
A
E-7.00 (bottle)
S-7.00 (ha ha , she takes up to an hour to get to sleep)
E - 11.00 dream feed (doesn't wake for it but is always awake during feed)

Then wakes however many times she rolls over and need putting back....

Feeling really low as it feels like everything is a struggle and she used to be quite a happy baby. I feel like she's over/under tired but can't see a solution. Add to that a needy three year old who is getting fed up of mummy spending all her time feeding or settling to sleep. I'm shattered both physically and emotionally! She was linking sleep cycles together really well and even sleeping until 7 a few times a week only a few weeks ago. She does seem to have a sore tummy and brings her knees up alot whimpering when i'm trying to get her to settle for naps adding to the problem!

Any ideas on where to start? She's broken! Thanks for reading  :'(

Hi there! Have you seen our Reflux board? The Mamas over there are fabulopous if you want to take a look and possibly post too. If there is any discomfort sleep can be so incredibly difficult! Your routine looks age appropriate, how long have you been on these A's? Will she ever resettle after the 30 minute nap? Typically 30 minute naps are OT but the raspberries ( does she wake up crying or silly?) make me wonder if it is UT..

Oh I know the feeling! This was totally me when DD arrived on the scene! Nearly even the same age gap as mine! It can be so tough! I would have a look over here:Colic, Reflux, & Crying
And see if any of this sounds like your LO, I am just wondering if there is more discomfort there.. let us know how the visit to the DR. goes and we will be happy to help you with any other sleep issues! ((HUGS!)) Hang in there, it does get better!!
