We barely rotate at all these days. It was so useful in the past but seems now like anything I put away he asks for straight away so it's pointless putting stuff out of rotation.
We do still rotate books, but he has access to all of his books if he asks to go to where they are stored, he also has to ask or wait to be offered any craft stuff.
We have out all the time (and yes it is way too much if you are strictly rotating)
- mega block
- duplo
- wooden blocks
- a box of people
- a box of other characters (like TV characters, people or animals etc)
- a box of animals (farm and safari type)
- a busy box of 'junk' (this does rotate with other busy boxes of 'junk')
- tool box of tools
- construction toys, lots of them, digger, crane, wrecking ball, cement mixer etc
- box of small cars
- box of bigger cars
- train
- fire station, house and car wash
- box of musical instruments
- box of books
- a ride on (this rotates with scooter and scramble bug at his request)

Then in the kitchen there is the cooker, shopping basket and a box of pans and foods etc.  The kitchen items were rotated several months ago and another several months before that.
In the bathroom there are some books and bath toys.

Every day I look at how much stuff we have and wonder what I can put away, and honestly I don't think I can put any out of rotation.  He combines all sorts of things together now so I feel like I would be limiting his imaginative play if I took any away.
