cereal, how to measure it
« on: September 21, 2013, 14:00:30 pm »
My LO is eating two tablespoons of oatmeal cereal mixed with an ounce of formula.  How should i count that for her daily total?  Does it equal two ounces of solids?  Or one ounce of both solid and formula?

I *think* you count the formula as one ounce of her daily milk intake and the solids as 2 tablespoons.

Remember that milk is the most important factor right now, so just ensure you LO is getting the right amount there. Solids are just for fun for a while yet :)

I agree with Catherine the ounce of formula can count towards her daily total.

Are you actively counting her solids? I didn't bother if it wasn't affecting the milk intake.

Thank you both for your responses.

Yes I actively weigh and keep count of her solids and formula intake.  She is 8 months, 18.5 lbs and currently eats three solids, breakfast 1 ounce of veggies, 1 ounce formula mixed with 2 tablespoons oatmeal, lunch 2 ounces of veggies,1 ounce formula mixed with 2 tablespoons oatmeal and dinner same as lunch.

She eats about 25-28 ounces of formula a day.

That seems like a lot of oatmeal. I would perhaps try to mix it up a bit so she gets different vitamins and minerals rather than the same food three times a day. Unless it is fortified there isn't actually that much nutrition in oatmeal.

The quantities see plenty though.
