why is she always wide awake by bedtime?!!?
« on: October 20, 2013, 16:05:13 pm »
i have posted before and still no answers. every single night, i put her in her bed and she blabs for an hour, sometimes longer! why won't she go to sleep. today i gave her only one nap from 11:00-12:30 and bedtime at 6. i thought for sure she would go straight to sleep, but no, its 7:00 and she is still blabbing.  she is 10.5 months old, and has always been doing this. it really is driving me nuts

If she always does it maybe it's just what she needs to do to wind down and settle herself to sleep.  If she's not upset I'd leave her to it.  Having said that 10.5 months is pretty young for one nap, and 1.5hrs isn't very long.  Does she usually do 1 nap or 2?

Does the babbling bother you because you think she doesn't get enough sleep by the time she stops or does she end up getting upset?

it annoys me that it takes so long even after all the hard work of sleep training. it also makes it impossible to leave her with babysitter/grandma- i need to be home the whole time until asleep...

Does she call for you and do you end up going back in to her?  Just wondering because your OP sounds like she's just talking / playing and goes to sleep by herself.  But seriously if she's happy I would ignore it - you can be the one to put her to bed and then go out if you want to and let someone else sit and listen to her!
I do get it, my DD has gone through phases of doing this too and it grates on me just because by the time she goes to bed I'm ready to relax and be done for the day and I find it hard to switch off if she's awake (even if she's happy in there). But the main point if sleep training is that she goes to sleep independently and if she's doing that then I would try not to worry about how long it takes as long as she's not upset.

i go in maybe twice since she stands up and tosses her lovey over board so i give it to her, lay her down and walk back out.
