hunger??? or playing up
« on: November 13, 2013, 18:24:25 pm »
Am really stuck and need a bit of advice.
Lo is nearly 14 months old and has been on 1 nap a day since 11 months. He has a dairy allergy and recently we've had to trial cows milk then soya. It seems he reacts to both. Since then (2wks ago) he has been waking randomly every night crying. sometimes just whining but mostly getting quite irate. Last night he woke at 3am and after an hour of crying i gave him a 3oz bottle and he instantly went bk to sleep until 7. He's an independent sleeper and usually only wakes when there is really something wrong.
My question is how do i get more food into him during the day. He already has 3 quite big meals a day plus 2 snacks and 26oz of neocate a day.
Any advice gratefully recieved.

I remember times that I would be feeding Olly banana in the MOTN after an hour of trying EVERY thing else I knew. Sometimes they are just that hungry. On the other hand you don't want to get into the habit of a night feed. Does he seem even more hungry in the day?

Its really hard to tell when he's hungry unless he's starving ( long story). I have noticed that after his first bottle he gets a bit whingy and about half hour before teatime. He pushes our hands away when he's had enough. Could it be that his tummy really cant hold enough to get him through the night?

I am wondering if he is having too much milk in the day.. 26oz is a lot isn't it? Maybe he needs more filling solid foods to get him through now

Olly was on oat milk (calcium enriched) and supplements form 14 months when I stopped BFing altogether. I would def ask the Paed next week, have you been referred to a dietician? They will ask you for a food diary and then work out what calcium he is getting and advise if you need more.

Sorry gone a bit OT - post on the Food boards if you need advice about diet  :)

Thanks for that. Really didnt know what to expect. Our lo is fine with oats so maybe that will be the way forwards. We've seen a dietician but that was when lo was 6 months old.

Well not bad still. Woke at half 2 & was whingy for an hour before crying. Hubby went in and he'd got a dirty nappy. Changed him and put him back in bed and within 20-30 mins he was asleep and woke at 6.45.
Not sure what tonight will bring though. He's teething and refused half his tea.  :'(
