Time to drop a nap?
« on: December 26, 2013, 19:23:42 pm »
Hello!
I hope everyone that uses this forum had a nice Christmas.  DD seemed more interested in paper and bows than presents for her first Christmas, LOL.

My DD is 6 1/2 months and I am back to work now.  She is with grandma at home while my husband and I work.  I am trying to figure out if she needs to drop the catnap or not.  Grandma says that she struggles to get her to sleep much past 40 minutes for her second nap (around 1:00), she also says that she has a hard time keeping her awake past 12:30 without her getting over tired.  When I am home on weekends (and now on Winter Break), some days both her long naps are good (at least 1 hour 20 minutes), but other days her second nap is only 40 minutes.  So the evidence is confusing me as to if she needs to drop a nap.

Also, if she does, is there some information that I can't locate on a process for doing that?

I have both books and am struggling to find it and swear I remember reading it!

Any insight would be most helpful!

Thank you!

My three word answer is: drop the catnap.  Most babies drop it around 5/6 months and if kept on after that it can start messing up the other naps, as you are seeing.  If she isn't able to do a 3 hour A time yet, then you will need to push her a little bit, and use Early BedTime some days.

Here's a link that sets it all out:
