Help! 4 month old easy
« on: November 29, 2013, 05:43:59 am »
My little boy will be 4 months old on Monday. We've been trying the easy routine since he was a few weeks old, but it just can't seem to get it right. He is currently feeding 3 hourly and will not move past that. He was 4 hourly for a few weeks, but changed back to 3 hourly over a month ago. He seems to be catnapping all day instead of having longer naps. He did drop his night feed 2 nights ago, but is back on it tonight. Our average day without the night feed was

E - 7am
A
S - 8:30am 45 minute at the most
E - 10am
A
S - 10:45 45 minute at the most, but can take a while to settle him initially
E - 1pm
A
S - 1:45pm again 45 minutes at most
A
E - 4pm
A
S - this is hit and miss. Won't sleep if put down, but will then sometimes doze in my arms (not always)
6:30 - bath, milk, story, bed by 7:30

If he has his night feed around 5am, the first feed of the day is 9am, then 12pm, 3pm, smaller feed at 5pm, 6:30pm bedtime routine.

He is shattered by the end of everyday. I don't think he is getting enough sleep during the day. He is a big baby, at 17lbs 10oz 2 days ago (5 days before 4 month old). He is drinking 8oz per bottle and I've been advised to try him on hungry baby food.

Please help!

Hi and welcome to the boards!

His A time seems a bit short to me. The average A time at his age is 1:45-2h (Average A times- BOOKMARK ME! ) and 45min naps if not developmental they are UT for most babies. I would try and gradually increase his A time by 10min every 4 days. Perhaps even just the extra 10min will extend the nap and then you don't need to increase more A time.
There is some information here about transitioning to 4h which I think can be helpful: 3-4hr EASY Transition – In 5 Minute Increments
